Knit Cami Top Refashion Ideas (4 Easy Upcycle Projects!)

This scallop hem cami top can be done in full length or crop length. However, I prefer to evaluate based on how fitted silhouette is when wearing the top.

Since the fabric is made with a knit material, it may have a snug fit on the body. If your top has a straight silhouette, go ahead and add scallop detail on the full length.

In order to alter a crop length for a special hemline design, first you need the right measurements before you start to cut the original shirt. Learn how to take your body measurement for clothing so you can easily adjust the desirable length for this tutorial.

No Sew Scallop Hem Cami Top Tips:

If you are looking for a simple upcycle project that doesn’t require sewing, give this DIY scallop hem cami top a try!

There are various ways to achieve scallop hemline from facing to embroidery finishes. In this upcycle tutorial, I share a quick and easy technique to iron-on interfacing for a clean finish hemline.

Here are no sew hacks that will help you complete the refashion without making unnecessary mistakes:

  • Fabric Scissors: Sharpen your fabric scissors prior to jumping into this project. Double fold a sheet of aluminum foil and cut through to quickly sharpen. Avoid using fabric scissors to cut paper because the knifes can get dull very easily.
  • Fusible Interfacing: In this camisole upcycle tutorial, I recommend using a light or medium weight fusible interfacing because the knit fabric is lightweight. Avoid using heavy interfacing because it will be too much weight.
  • Measuring Tape: When altering the length of the top with a new cut line, use a measuring tape instead of a ruler. The flexible tape can easily wrap around curved lines instead of being bound to straight measurements.
  • Fabric Chalk: When draw a line or mark a new style, use fabric chalk and avoid using markers or pens. Ink can bleed onto fabric and cannot be erased, but wax based chalk can easily wash away by wiping with a damp rag.
  • Iron: Adjust the heat and avoid steam to quickly glue the interfacing to the surface. Place an iron mat or ironing board beneath the garment to avoid melting or burning the table.
